Fit to be filmed at Riverside TV
You may never of heard of Riverside TV Studios but they are a part of your childhood! Riverside Studios were the first ever purpose built TV Studios in the UK and are home to Blue Peter, The Apprentice, Doctor Who, CD:UK and more recently The Poker Channel and MTV.
The studios had a problem with the floor surface, it was uneven and had multiple layers of paint accumulated. This was causing problems during filming, as when the high tech cameras were panning out, shaking was visible. They required a perfectly smooth floor laid to exacting tolerances and also suitable to be repeatedly painted over for each change of set.
Gallagher’s provided a total solution including the removal of the accumulated paint. The exposed surface revealed problems with the substrate, which was on an old crumbling slab. This was solved by diamond grinding the surface and applying a stabilising surface primer, followed by a cement based fast cure resurfacing compound that was self-levelling. It is a product that is designed for industrial use and can cope with fork lift traffic within hours.
To achieve the desired finish a self flowing resin rich topping system was applied at a nominal 3mm in Winter Grey. An anti-slip surface was applied to the fire exit lane and safety demarcation lines installed as well.
Riverside Studios were delighted with the works, which had to be completed in between filming schedules. Despite the problems found with the substrate, Gallagher’s still completed on time and ready for filming of The Apprentice. The cameramen are thrilled with the finish. Subsequently we have completed another studio for Riverside in this same specification.
When a London international TV studio, Azzaman International Ltd, visited Riverside studios, they were so impressed with their floor, they instructed Gallagher’s to upgrade their floor to the same high specification.
